We find our heroine, Sally,
a person of impeccable character,
unimpeachable integrity, and
unfathomable brilliance
meditating on the mysteries of
the universe--as is her wont--
on a crisp January evening.
Her personal cellular device
tintinnabulates.
"Hello? Who is this?" she did
not answer, for she did not
recognize the number and so
'twas likely a bot or the
sort of monster who might
unexpectedly call one who is
not expecting a call, a practice
considered très gauche among her
people, the Millenials.
Again, she heard the bothersome
clangor of her telephone.
Surmising it was not a bot, but
rather a monster who must be
placated lest it continue its
incessant attempts at basic human
communication, she relented.
"Uh...hi?" Sally answered luminously.
"Hi, Sally," spoke a voice that
she immediately recognized.
This was no misguided Boomer,
but in fact a fellow Millenial.
Traitor.
This Monster among Men--
Miles was his name--went on to
describe Renaissance Schools,
an educational childcare
organization he was starting in
order to provide access to
Montessori education to children
from low-income families.
Understanding the laudability of the
venture, Sally magnanimously chose
to ignore the unexpected nature
of the call and agreed to build
the organization a website.
And so our heroine bravely took
on the task of building a bespoke
WordPress site, triumphing over
entirely possible odds to
produce a dazzling website for
Renaissance Schools.
And all was well with the world.
(Well, one thing was well with
the world and this was that one thing.)

Fire Notice
Look around now and choose the exit nearest to your seat. In the event of a fire, walk (do not run) to that exist. Do not try to beat your neighbor to the street.*

ABOUT THIS PRODUCTION The Renaissance Schools project is a freelance project I did for Renaissance Schools, a Montessori-style childcare non-profit based in Minnesota that provides affordable access to early Montessori education for low-income families. The movers and shakers behind it are dear family friends of mine and it is a worthy new venture, so I was honored to be hired to build them the website. The website is a bespoke WordPress site (100% brand new custom theme, 100% original design) that offers important information for families trying to find out what Renaissance Schools is all about. The site is designed to be completely responsive, mobile-friendly, and as easy as possible for non-developers to manage without sacrificing a wealth of options and modular feature possibilities. All the styling was done using Sass.

Sponsors

The following sponsors have been made possible by this production:**
*Fire notices like these were commonly used on theatrical playbills and programs in the early 20th century. This particular one appears in almost identical form on a number of different Ziegfeld Follies theatrical playbills and is attributed to whichever local fire commissioner happened to be wandering by at a given moment (ok the wandering bit may or may not be true). This may have become a standard warning after a fire at Chicago's Iroquois Theater in 1903 claimed over 600 lives.
